As promised, we are back to share with you how we made the Red Wine Sea Salt favors! I do have to say first off that the recipe wasn't an original, we got it from the talented Two Loves Studio, she has great recipes and beautiful photos that make me want to eat them right off my computer screen. But we thought it would be fun to show the process of making it!
Ingredients 3 cups red wine
1 1/2 cups sea salt (coarse or rock salt)
Bring the wine to a boil on medium heat.
Reduce the temperature and simmer until the liquid reduces to 1-2 tablespoons. It will be pretty thick, the consistency of syrup. It will also make your house smell like you are a wine-o. Not saying that's a bad thing ;-)
Add in salt. The recipe calls for every tablespoon of reduced wine, add 1 – 1 1/2 cups of sea salt. I think that we ended up doing quite a bit more to get the color we wanted. We started a little bit at a time, and then added to it to make sure we didn't put to much salt in, but we found that the wine went a long way.
Spread evenly over a cookie sheet. We used parchment paper on the bottom to make sure nothing stuck. Leave it out overnight to dry.
One closing thought-- the salt was pretty sticky, so you may not want to put it in a grinder, perhaps using something else to crush it that is a little more easy to clean would be good. Here is the finished product:
Make and enjoy!
